Public Realm

The proposals will provide six distinct character areas, all nodding to the character of both the current site and the area more broadly.

A diverse, ecologically rich planting scheme is proposed, inspired by traditional English gardens; designed to enhance biodiversity and offer an immersive sensory experience.

Pockets of informal seating as well as walking routes through the site allow for rest and health habits to be formed and maintained.

Landscaping and Planting

The landscaping strategy for the site is underpinned by the creation of Fairfield Park, a new park that links surrounding green spaces to each other and to this part of Edgware.

The Park will include rain gardens, interactive child play zones, colourful flowerbeds to attract pollinators and will support biodiversity. Thoughtfully designed walking paths and shaded seating areas will invite visitors to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Fairfield Park will create a new car-free green route, improving permeability through the site and the wider context.

Fairfield Park will include the following:

  • Shade and Drought Tolerant Planting
  • Rain Gardens
  • Swales
  • Detention Basins
  • Attenuation Tank/Blue Roofs
  • Non-Prescriptive Play Opportunities
  • Public Art & Cultural Play
  • Play on the Way
  • Doorstep Play

A variety of planting and play spaces will be incorporated throughout the site, adding ecological benefit, biodiversity, and enjoyment for those of all ages. Examples of this can be found below:
